This place is great - so sad it's temporarily closed. It's moving locations from South Rainier. I love the ribs!

Can't wait for it to reopen!

First of all, let me say, I'm right on the fence with this review. But, I can't quite make it to five stars. Pookie has been around for a long time and I remember eating his food on Cherry St. years ago. He will tell you and I agree that the key to good barbecue is the pit. The fire, the smoke, the wood. Managing these elements in combination is the secret to good barbecue and Pookie is a magician.

Now, let's get the tough part out of the way. His sauce, while very good, is just a tad too sweet for me. But, his ribs are are almost too good for words. I need to spend a little more time with him to explore what he'll share about his process. Here's what I can say: contrary to some people's belief, the rib meat should not fall off the bone. It should be tender and firm and moist requiring gentle pressure from the mouth and teeth to be pulled from the bone in bite size pieces. Preparing ribs this way is not easy. Consistently producing ribs this way requires the passion and commitment of a craftsman and years of practice.

So far, I haven't tried Pookie's full range of products. But, I will and I'll update my reviews as I do. I'm going to enjoy my research and I hope to see you there.

Great food, customer friendly restaurant design, and a nice wooden decor for that traditional Western vibe!

Soon as I walked in, I can smell a light beautiful fragrance of a BBQ/smoker, which immediately gets my appetite and excitement!

    I will come back!

    Great spot!

I love how simple the menu is - shows that they really focus on mastering the food they offer!

We ordered the rib dinner with beans and potato salad, a pulled beef sandwich, a hot link, and two cold cokes to wash it down.

All were delicious. The ribs were so tender the meat just melted off as soon as you took a bite. The beef sandwich was a hefty and dense portion. Lots of beef packed in! I can't speak to the hotlink since i didn't eat it, but my bf enjoyed it.

The place was simple and clean and had great music! The service was awesome as well.

Will return when we're in the mood for bbq!

Oh man bringing back the phrase "The Bomb" it is fantastic.  The ribs are so tender, sweet bbq sauce.  Chaka Khan played around the clock.  Juicy Que, potatoe salad, and greens soul food @ its best.  The friendly welcoming service I really love this place. They are moving to R&L's old place in Seattle on Yessler.
